368. Carving Heirloom Walking Stick Toppers with Steve Armstrong******Cancelled

Explore carving heirloom quality wooden walking stick toppers with master craftsman and artist Steven Armstrong.  In this unique workshop for beginning to advanced level carvers, students will create their own human head walking stick topper, an Armstrong specialty, that they will be able to attach later to a found stick or commercially made wooden spindle.  Students will be supplied with a seasoned piece of poplar wood, excellent for carving, in 6" x 2" x 2" shape.  A variety of templates for tracing a head shape will be provided.  Participants should bring a hobby, x-acto knife, or carving knife.  A number of small files, rasps, sanding sticks, and sandpaper will be used for finishing the carved heads so that they can later be easily attached to wooden spindles.  PD credit is available for teachers.
